HOUSTON (AP) — Hard-throwing reliever Josh Hader and the Houston Astros finalized a $95 million, five-year contract on Monday. Hader will get a $19 million salary in each of the next five seasons, none of it deferred. He gets a full no-trade provision and would receive a $1 million bonus for winning the Mariano Rivera/Trevor Hoffman Reliever of the Year Award. Houston reached the agreement three days after announcing reliever Kendall Graveman will miss the season after right shoulder surgery. Because Hader turned down a qualifying offer, San Diego will receive an extra pick in next July’s amateur draft.

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Jose Altuve homered, Cristian Javier worked into the sixth inning of another solid postseason start and the Houston Astros beat the Texas Rangers 8-5 on Wednesday night, closing to 2-1 in the AL Championship Series. Javier set a franchise record for the defending champion Astros by extending his postseason scoreless streak to 20 1/3 innings. He threw 5 1/3 scoreless innings six days later, on Sept. 12 at Toronto, before going on the injured list because of the shoulder strain. NEW YORK (AP) — Milwaukee's Corbin Burnes is pitching a no-hitter through seven innings Sunday against the New York Yankees. The 2021 NL Cy Young Award winner retired his first 12 hitters before walking Giancarlo Stanton on his 54th pitch. Winless in eight starts since July 20, Burnes is attempting to throw Milwaukee’s third no-hitter. He combined with Josh Hader on the Brewers' second, pitching eight innings at Cleveland on Sept. 11. Milwaukee’s first no-hitter was by Juan Nieves on April 15, 1987 against the Orioles.

The only previous no-hitter in 118 years of World Series history is Don Larsen’s perfect game in the 1956 World Series. The Astros now hold the distinction of throwing the first combined no-hitter in postseason history, according to Major League Baseball. The only other no-hitter in postseason history was tossed by Roy Halladay for the Phillies in the 2010 National League Divisional Series.
